Inaugural Special Olympics Selangor State Basketball Games: A Day of Unity, Skill, and Triumph

On Saturday, October 19, 2024, Special Olympics Selangor marked a significant moment by hosting its inaugural State Basketball Games at Pusat Rekreasi JKKK Batu 11 in Cheras.


The event featured three unified teams battling it out in a round-robin 3x3 team basketball tournament, where every athlete demonstrated remarkable dedication and skill. Adding to the day's excitement were the individual skill competitions, which included challenging events such as the Spot Shot, Dribble, and 10M Speed Dribble.


The atmosphere buzzed with energy as the athletes were cheered on by their families, filling the venue with vibrant applause and encouragement.

Participants were divided based on age and skill levels, ensuring a fair and competitive environment. The day concluded with a celebratory medal ceremony, where winners from each division were awarded gold, silver, bronze, or position medals, recognizing their extraordinary efforts and fostering a sense of camaraderie and achievement. It was a day that embodied the spirit of unity, sportsmanship, and personal triumph.

SO Selangor Charity Fun Bowling 2023

The Charity Fun Bowling event organized by Special Olympics Selangor transformed the Ampang Superbowl at The Summit USJ into a vibrant red-colored space. With the aim of promoting inclusion and raising funds for Special Olympics Selangor, 54 athletes and 54 unified partners joined forces to create 27 teams and participate in this charity event that was held on Saturday morning 18 March.


The event managed to raise RM27,000 in total, and we, on behalf of the Special Olympics Selangor Organizing Committee, would like to extend our gratitude to all the sponsors, athletes, parents, and volunteers who supported and contributed to its success.

Special Olympics Selangor Athletes and National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM)had a striking time at a bowling tournament organized by YEDP11A, a subsidiary of TNB. The tournament held on the Saturday, 16 March 2019 was a collaboration between NASOM and project team YEDP11A. The theme was "Strike Out Difference, Autism Embrace".


The day truly echoed the theme as staff from ILSAS and the project team gamely volunteered to partner the athletes in a competitive tournament. Throughout the tournament, teams comprising three athletes with autism and one volunteer, battled out on the lanes. Whoops, Aaahs and Yeahs reverberated against the downing of pins.


Puan Noor Hafiza Binti Hamid, a trainer from ILSAS and team-mates comprising Peggy, Andrew and Nicholas of Team 5 encouraged athletes from her team with hi-fives and claps, while doing not too badly herself. She was happy and said that she truly enjoyed herself and even got some bowling tips from her team-mates.


In the above 15 category, SOSgor athletes, Tan Seng Kit, David Foo and Clement Ooi emerged individual Champion, runner-up and third respectively. In the team events, the Champion team had Seng Kit, David Foo and Zen Lee from SOSgor who partnered En. Jahid, Senior Leadership Consultant of ILSAS, second place team had Clement Ooi (United Voice), Hakimi and Kean Ann (both from NASOM) and third placed team had Samuel Chok, Tee Hong Guan and Chuan Teik Kean from SOSgor.

It was a good outing for SOSgor athletes.


Altogether there were 20 teams, 9 teams from ages 15 above and 11 teams from ages 15 below. At the end of the day, anxieties and emotions gave way to shouts and cheers as all athletes received their medals.
