It was a day of happy chaos as athletes looked for their team mates at the 2nd Unified Bowling Game in conjunction with Eunice Kennedy Shriver (EKS) Day event in Wangsa Bowl, Bandar Utama. The day was graced by YB Hannah Yeoh, Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development who kick-started the event by knocking down a few pins herself.
A total 33 teams, each comprising 4 athletes with Intellectual Disabilities and a partner rocked the bowling centre. The 98 athletes are from Special Olympics Selangor, United Voice, The Life Chapel, NASOM and various PDKs from around Selangor. Partners are friends, family members and people from various organizations.
Unified Sports is an important feature of Special Olympics which looks at team sports as a fun and inclusive way of bringing about better understanding and friendship between people with and without intellectual disabilities.
Champion team was represented by Eugene Wong, Sara -Anne, Wesley Chua with partner Alvin Neo who had sponsored the group.
Second place went to KLCAH A with athletes Xian Jian, Chan Aileen and Irfan Harith partnered by Brendan Sta Maria.
Third placing went to the NASOM Team of Poon Tze Hei, Ooi Kean Aun and Muhammad Hakimi with partner Ahmad Muzamel.
Everyone else had the chance to walk up and receive a participation medals and got their team photo taken. True to the motto of Special Olympics, "Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt", there were smiles and laughter throughout the event.
