In conjunction with World Autism Day, Special Olympics Selangor (SOSgor) kick-started its long awaited swimming class at Kompleks 3K Subang Jaya made possible by the support and special permission from Puan Noraini Binti Roslan, Yang DiPertua of Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ) in allowing us to use the 3K swimming pool facility as our SOSgor official training ground. Athletes of SOSgor can now enjoy year round free coaching and training from our volunteer coaches.
This partnership with MPSJ sees another avenue for yet another sport for persons with Intellectual Disability to explore their sporting talents.
Today's inaugural training class saw 14 athletes and some parents dipping into the pool and splashing with good spirits as per the instructions of the volunteer coach.
Besides the coaches and parents, MPSJ has also provided the service of two lifeguards during the training session. SOSgor expects this program to gain momentum once more volunteer swimming coaches are able to participate.
Our mission is to provide opportunities in as many sports activities as possible for our athletes so that each and every one can discover hidden strengths or at least is able to try out various sports. We continuously look for volunteers and partnerships that can help to propel SOSgor forward. And along the way, we hope to give these athletes the chance to represent SOSgor in competitions, tournaments and meets, both locally and internationally like, the Special Selangor State Games, the Special Olympics National Games and in 2020, the Special Olympics Asia Pacific Regional Games and the ASEAN Autism Games.
